Ramadan is a special month for Muslims all over the world, and it is a time to increase one's spirituality and connection with Allah. There are several things that you can do during Ramadan to ensure that you achieve a great deal and receive a tremendous reward. However, it is essential to be consistent with these practices even after Ramadan is over. Here are five simple things that you can do throughout Ramadan to achieve this goal:
- Pray on time and in congregation. Additionally, pray the sunnah prayers before and after each prayer. The Prophet ﷺ has informed us that a house in Jannah will be built for the one who does this.
- Perform the adhkar (remembrance/invocations) of the prayer after each prayer. The Adhkaar As-sabaah (morning remembrance) and Adhkaar Al-masa' (evening remembrance) are a series of authentic adhkar and dua that were made by the Prophet ﷺ. These will protect you from envy, the evil eye, punishment, sadness, depression, anxiety, and many other issues by the will and power of Allah.
- Read a portion of the Quran after each prayer. If you can read 4 pages after each prayer, you will finish the Quran once every month from cover to cover. Each letter is multiplied by 10 good deeds resulting in a total of 3.2 million good deeds. This may lead to tens of millions of rewards in Ramadan.
- Give sadaqah (charity) every day and night. It could be as small as $1 a day. Remember, it is not about the quantity, but rather the quality. Give a proportion that is meaningful to you or whatever you can and do it sincerely for Allah without expecting anything in return from the receiver.
- Read a Tafsir daily (I recommend Tafsir Ibn Kathir). After one year, you would have completed the Quran 12 times, attained millions of rewards, learnt the deep meanings of the Quran. Now start sharing what you have learned with others so they too can advance themselves and connect to Allah.
These five simple things can help you achieve a great deal and receive a tremendous reward during Ramadan. But it is essential to be consistent with these practices even after Ramadan is over.
May Allah bless us and guide us on the path of righteousness.
